I used http://www.learningcompany.com for my son when he was little little little… Now he is 14.

    Oops
I am not supposed to embarrass him this way.

Jumpstart… I remember these, I had them when I was younger, they are fun, and you will always be ahead of the class.

The best, though not so free but cheap software is
    you!Crayons,coloring books,"Fun Pads"Which are based
on old IQ tests ,are great for your kid and they don’t even know it.all they require is a pencil. The best software is at the kitchen table with you or mom..In only a half hour of quality time,But is your kid
your priority ???Save the pc for later….Sure a few
seseme street counting basics ect and maybe once a week
for the pc…Whtas wrong with tv ..All the tella tubbies
or barneyness?Hand held educational games are much better
    also.."Your"pc really>No

Playhouse Disney has worked very well for us, even on our aging computer. A 4-year-old can easily learn to navigate through the site and play the games. I believe Jo-Jo had some of the most compelling number games, and Disney is always adding content.
