Using Computer as Preschool Learning Tool

Preschools intend to make possible the overall growth of the children with respect to their personal skills, social skills, and overall cognitive development. It focuses on getting the children to communicate better with the other children as well as adults around them. Preschool education also focuses on unleashing children’s creativity and encourages expression of thoughts and ideas through speaking and drawing as well. Preschools also focus on the physical development of children and usually include simple and easy exercises and outdoor games to ensure the physical fitness of the children. Preschools also help to develop children’s basic mathematical skills. Thus, basic aim of pre-school education is overall development of a child’s cognitive abilities, emotional expression and overall growth (Manuhar, 2008).

Using the computer as an instruction tool to add to the classroom experience does train them for grade school. While it is essential for preschool children to have a range of activities, computer-based learning can begin as soon as children can effectively handle a mouse. More often than not, children can gamely spend up to a half an hour at a time on the computer. Children like the freedom and stimulation of interacting with preschool software.

Most preschoolers observe that their parents and siblings spend time working on the computer. As you would expect, they also want to try it. This interest can be utilized to help build the children’s concentration; to build prephonics reading skills such as phonemic awareness; to build a range of school readiness basic skills such as sorting by colors, distinguishing shapes, learning the basic numbers, and recognizing the letters. Online preschool learning games can be very effective at teaching many basic skills.

Thus, exposure to educational computer games and activities in moderate levels can be a great way to engage the students in educational preschool activities. There are a lot of computer games and activities which are a great learning experience for the children. The computer activities also enhance the children’s hand-eye coordination. From alphabets, numbers to cartoons and colors, there exist a wide variety of computer activities and games, which are extremely useful in preschool education. This is also a great way to introduce the children to the technology (Manuhar, 2008).
